Ash Wednesday

(This is me taking a picture of myself when I got home from church....not the best, but I was really just trying to get the ashes on my forehead in the picture.)

Today is Ash Wednesday.  I have always loved the Ash Wednesday Service at church.  I have to admit I have really missed my preschoolers on Wednesday nights.  Last week WOW was canceled because of the weather, and tonight everyone went to big church for the Ash Wednesday Service.  It was so sweet to see the little girls get the ashes drawn in a cross on their forehead.  They were so proud!  (6 of the girls were there tonight, and the most I've ever had is 7!)  I talked to them after the service, and one of them asked me,"Mrs. Rae, why weren't you here tonight?"  I told her I was there, that I was in big church just like her.  She then responded, "Do we have to go to big church next week?" (with a frown on her face)  I told her no, that we would have class next week and I got a YAY from them all.  They are so funny!
Ash Wednesday, also is the first day that I chose to give up something or make a sacrifice.  I was reminded of the passage from Matthew 6:16-18

When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fast...ing, but only to your Father... who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

So, I was reminded that my sacrifice is between me and God, not me and everyone else.  It basically reminds me that I am not supposed to brag about what I am giving up.  I have shared with a few people and all I can say is it is not going to be easy......which, I know, is the idea......but Whew!

Happy Beginning of Lent!

Mt. View, I've Missed You

Today was the first time I have been to Mt. View in a month because of all of this crazy weather.  I took a few pictures of my favorite places.

I LOVE Mt. View Wal-Mart.  You would think that most of the Wal-Mart stores have the same stuff, but they do not.  Mt. View has the best sales.  I will go to Wal-Mart in Cabot or Searcy, and find something I want.  I always wait until I go to Wal-Mart in Mt.View because it will probably be on sale there.  It is crazy.  They especially have good sales on toys, holiday items, baby stuff, and home decor.  Oh, and of course doggie accessories!  I have gotten Percie some really cute stuff for a great price!

This is the view to the right of Wal-Mart.  The snow covered hills are so pretty!

I just had to take a picture of the huge pile of snow in the parking lot.  It is finally melting...a little.  This wasn't the only huge pile of snow.

This is the Mexican restaurant on the square where I eat lunch sometimes.  (Yes, you can see me in the window reflection.  Ha!)  They have great chips and salsa.

I LOVE the Cornerstone Shoppe!  They have the best stuff....a lot of my favorites.  They carry Brighton, Yellow Box Shoes, really cute jewelry and purses, everything monogrammed (kitchen supplies, front door mats, cute baby stuff, etc.), really cute razorback stuff (anything you can imagine from jewelry to kitchen stuff, etc.), holiday stuff (they have Christmas stuff all year!), and of course.....doggie accessories!

The entrance to the 2 story shoppe.....yes I said 2 story!

Some of the cute jewelry.

Shoes and some bags upstairs.
I love shopping their sales!  I spent $8.00 today, and look at what I got.....

NO, I am NOT a LSU fan......but my sister and her family are.  So, I got 3 of these, one for Mattilyn, Logan, and Braden.  For 75% off.....I might add!

And I got these kitchen towels for my sister.  AGAIN....I am NOT an LSU fan, but these were too cute to pass up getting Jeannie!  Oh, and they were 75% off, also!

And I got Percie this really cute collar......you guessed it.......for 75% off!  I love a good deal!

I also LOVE Wood's Soda Fountain.  They serve sandwiches, soups, pies and desserts, and they have a special every day......and you never know what it might be!  Today it was poppy seed chicken.

It is a restaurant inside a pharmacy.  I wish I had taken a picture inside.  They have the bar with the old bar stools.  They serve milkshakes and phosphates.  You can pick just about any flavor you want.  It is SO cute inside!

This is the entrance.  Today I had a pork bar-b-que sandwich and chips.  I also enjoy their ham and cheese sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, and polish sausage sandwich.  Mama loves their Reuben and homemade pimento cheese......and sometimes she is adventurous and gets the special.  They always have different stuff for their special.  I don't think I have ever seen the same thing twice.  (Of course I only go on Wednesdays and I don't eat there every Wednesday)  This place is always busy......especially during tourist season.  (Yes, Mt. View, Arkansas has a tourist season.  And believe me, I can definitely tell a difference in the traffic and how long the lines are.  Ha!)

This is just a few of my favorite places in Mt. View.  Hope you enjoyed!

Happy Valentine's Day ( a little late)

Joe worked all weekend, so we celebrated Valentine's Day on Monday, Feb. 15.

Joe and I ate at Moogollies in Beebe.  Joe had never been there before, and I am pretty sure we will be going back!  Moogollies is the only place in Beebe to eat something besides Mexican and Pizza.  There is a bar-b-que stand that sells great bar-b-que on Friday and Saturday, but it is carry out only....so it doesn't count!  Ha!

Joe with his crab legs, baked potato, and broccoli and cheese soup.  He LOVED it!  I had the loaded potato rounds, but I think I will try something different next time.

Happy Valentine's Day!

More Snow

Joe and I have both been off work the last 2 days because of guess what....more snow!

Joe took this picture at about 4:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010.  The snow flakes were HUGE!

Look at the size of those flakes!

You can really tell how hard it was coming down in this picture!  Joe was so sweet.....I was a little under the weather (stupid stomach bug) so Joe raised the blinds in our bedroom so I could see it snowing.  I couldn't say much, but I did get out "Please take some pictures!"

This was out our front door around noon on the 8th.  I wasn't feeling great, but better, so I opened the front door and took this picture!  It was STILL snowing!

This morning (2-9-10) I woke up feeling great, so Joe and I decided to play in the snow.

I think I sunk up to my knees in the snow!  (Well maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but not much!  It was past my calves!)  I saw on the news last night that we had 8 inches and were expected to get 1 to 2 more over night.

This is the big tree in front of the dorm covered in snow!

This is the parking lot across the street.  Yes, that is a parking lot......needless to say ASU Beebe is not in session tomorrow either!

This is the big snow ball I threw at Joe!  Ha!  You can see in the background that the roads are kind of clear.

We decided to build a snow man.

Here is Joe with the snow man.  (About an hour later someone had already knocked it over.  That's what happens when you live with 80 college boys.  Joe found out who did it and made them apologize and say they would build another one.  They claim they didn't know we had built it.  Ha!)

This is the feild over by the girls dorm.

On the way to the cafeteria.  We ventured over there for supper.  I really did not think it would snow this much, so I didn't go to the grocery store.

Joe wanted me to take a picture of the John Deere's in the snow.
We had a great snow day!  ASU Beebe is already out tomorrow, but I will probably have to go to work.  That is okay with me.  All this snow is killing my vacation time!  Ha!  I may go and work on a few things even if we are closed.

How I Spent Super Bowl '10

Joe had a big Super Bowl Party at the college tonight, so I went to mama's.  Michelle and Mackenzie came over.

Percie sat with Michelle.

Mackenzie did not want me to take her picture so she was covering her face.  I tickled her so I could get this picture!

Kenzie watching Hannah Montana!  Yes, we watched Disney instead of the Super Bowl.....well, most of the Super Bowl.  We did watch part of it...the half time show and the 4th quarter!  Ha!  I am glad the Saints won!

Mama and Holly.
We ordered pizza from Pizza Pro and had a great time!

Molly had a good time!
Kenzie and her ball.
Kenzie entertained us with a little song and dance....Kenzie style.  She cracks me up!

Kenzie and Michelle.
She also had Michelle go hide because she wanted to play hide and go seek.  Then she was "too scared" to go find her!  Ha!
I'm so glad they came over to enjoy the "Super Bowl" with us!

Percie's Birthday Creations

I saw some really cute stuff in Just Dogs for doggie birthdays.  I decided I could definitely make some of it for a much lower price......so off to Hobby Lobby I went!

I looked up on the internet how to make a tutu and made the collars like you would make a tutu.

I tied all of the pink first and then went back and added the purple.  (I even hot glued the elastic together because I do NOT sew!  Ha!  It probably won't stay forever, but I knew they wouldn't wear them long.)

The finished product.

Percie trying on her collar.

I had a little elastic and purple tulle left, so I made the kitten, Sophie Grace, one too!  (And she actually wore it!)

I also decorated the birthday hats.  Do you know how hard it is to find plain birthday hats?  I finally found them at Party City.

I didn't take any pictures of the before of the hats, but I just hot glued these feathers, rhinestones, and pom poms on the hats.  On Percie's I wrote a 5 with a paint pen.  Super easy!  And a lot of fun.

Percie told me she liked her birthday collar and hat!
